A record field of poker players from across the Philippines and neighboring countries are expected to take their shot at a guaranteed prize pool of P10-million in the Metro Anniversary Special slated on December 10 to 14 at the Metro Card Club in Pasig City, Philippines.
The event is the eleventh leg of the prestigious Filipino Poker Tour (FPT) and is set to go down the biggest sporting event in the country this year.
At a buy-in of only P15,000 and entry fee of P1,000, one will have a chance of winning the life-changing first prize of at least P3-million and becoming an instant celebrity, just like previous FPT champions who are already making waves in the international circuit.
Among those marquee names competing in the tournament are 2009 Asian Poker Tour Philippines champion and FPT 3 winner Neil Arce, along with two-time FPT champion Kent del Rosario and FPT 10-Metro Hi-5 titlist Vic de Guzman who earned P2-million for his feat in that tournament held last August.
Hundreds of players have already earned seats to the event through satellites and tournaments being conducted daily at the Metro Card Club, which is the biggest card room in Asia. The Metro Card Club is fast establishing the Philippines as the poker hub of Asia with its desire to promote tournament poker the way the rest of the world views it: as a mind sport.
There are also those who made it through a series of “freeroll tournaments” conducted daily online at PokerStars.com, where seats were given away for free or through a $5 satellite.
Metro, the biggest card room operator in Asia, is already in the record books for offering the biggest prize pool guarantees as well as attracting the record number of player entries for a local poker room operator and poker tournament organizer.
In March 2009, the poker room set the record with a player entry of 333; however, that achievement was short-lived because in August, they achieved 667 players for that month's major tournament. Even that impressive record did not stand for very long. In October, it smashed all records by attracting a whopping player entry of 804.
Expect another record-breaking field for this tournament as players from all over the country and the Asia-Pacific region come together to compete in The Metro Card Club’s Metro Anniversary Special.
