Muehloecker Hits To Survive

• Level 10: 600-1,200, 100 ante

Thomas Muehloecker opened the action and then faced a three-bet from Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov to 5,600. With the blinds out of the way Muehloecker eyed up his opponent and threw in the calling chips.

They both checked the flop of {9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and on the turn card {7-Clubs} Muehloecker moved all in and was snapped off by Katchalov.

Katchalov had top set {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} and Muehloecker was on a draw, at risk, with one card to come. That card was the {j-Diamonds} to give him a straight.

Mizzi the Bully

• Level 10: 600-1,200, 100 ante

Sorel Mizzi has perhaps the biggest stack in the tournament at the moment and he certainly has at has table by a long way.

Mizzi has been opening a decent amount of pots and in a recent hand when it was folded to him on the button he raised and the big bind complained jokingly, “Don’t bully us.” Mizzi took the pot uncontested and showed {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} pleading he only ever did it with legitimate hands. The table didn’t look convinced.

WSOP Main Event Champs Fall

• Level 10: 600-1,200, 100 ante

World Series of Poker Main Event champions Greg Merson and Jonathan Duhamel have recently been eliminated from play. Merson was short-stacked for most of the day and was unable to gain momentum as play progressed. We came upon Duhamel's table in time to see him move all in for roughly 20,000 on a board of {6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}.

Duhamel's opponent instantly called, prompting the 2010 WSOP Main Event champion to roll over {10-Spades}{8-Spades} for a spade flush. Duhamel's opponent had that beat, however, with {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for a full house of deuces full of treys.

"Yeah that wins," remarked Duhamel as he stood from the table.

Kanit Chat

• Level 10: 600-1,200, 100 ante

Steve O’Dwyer opened the action for 2,800 and got called by Jason Mo to his left. Mustapha Kanit in the big blind made it 7,000 and after giving it some Zen contemplation O’Dwyer passed. Mo put out the calling chips. A flop of {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} saw a bet of 9,000 from Kanit and a fold from Mo.

The fold prompted the talkative Kanit to ask Mo, “Why did you call?”

“I wanted to see a flop.”

“There’s no good flops for you.

“There’s a lot of good flops for me.” Mo insisted.

Kanit replied that he was more interested in busting O’Dwyer anyway.

After the staggering US $3.4 million prize pool was announced earlier today we spoke to APPT President Danny McDonagh about the big increase compared to last year. In 2013 the ACOP Main Event had a field of 203 players and that record was smashed by this year's 291 players. The future is bright for poker in Macau and here's what McDonagh had to say.
