One Step at a Time

Marc Rivera

Filipino pro Marc Rivera saw his stack dip to about only 1,100 after a recent hand.

Pre-flop, after the UTG player had limped, Marc raised to 2,500 from the cut-off and everybody foldedb back to the UTG, who called.

Flop: {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

The UTG player got things started, firing out a bet of 2,000. Marc quickly made the call.

When the turn {7-Clubs} appeared, the UTG player bet out 3,000 and Marc made the call again.

On the river {2-}, the player stayed aggressive, splashing 7,000 into the pot. Marc thought for a while before finally calling. Unfortunately for him, his opponent showed {k-}{q-} -- just a notch higher than his {k-}{j-}.

With his stack at about 1,000 or so, Marc went for it all a few hands later, going all-in with {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and getting called by a player with {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

This time Marc had better luck as the flop and turn blanked but a six landed on the river to give him the quick double.
