Event #29: $10,000 Limit Hold'em Championship

Bonomo on Broadway

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Justin Bonomo raised from the cutoff seat to open the pot, and Phil Galfond three-bet him from the button.

The two men took a flop of {5-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades}, and Bonomo check-raised a Galfond bet. The turn and river came {J-Diamonds} and {J-Hearts} to fill out the board, and Galfond called Bonomo's bets on each street.

At showdown, Bonomo's {A-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} was going to be hard to beat, and indeed Galfond could not show anything better than Broadway. The pot goes to ZeeJustin, moving him up to 36,000 and knocking Galfond down around 28,000.

A Wheel For Deeb

Stefan Huber opened the pot under the gun, and Nikolay Evdakov made it three bets in position. From the button, Shaun Deeb reraised to four bets, and both Huber and Evdakov called the extra bets to go to a three-way flop.

It came {2-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}, all suited and pretty-like. Deeb bet when they checked to him, and Huber stuck in a check-raise. That folded Evdakov, and Deeb called the extra small bet. That led them heads up to the {5-Clubs} turn, and Huber check-called another bet. He did the same thing on the {10-Spades} river, and Deeb tabled the winning {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}, having turned his wheel to take down the pot.

"I'm upset for you," table mate Greg Mueller said. "You're using up all your luck now."

Deeb's luck has taken his stack up to 76,000 now and into contention for the early chip lead.

Mizzi Gets Kinged

The pot was raised (and likely rereaised) before the flop, and we picked up the heads-up action just as the dealer put down {10-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} on the flop. Mizzi bet out from the small blind, and his opponent called from the button. That action repeated on the {J-Diamonds} turn with Mizzi getting in a full bet.

On the river, the {5-Hearts} drew one last bet from Mizzi, but his opponent finally raised, and Mizzi called. The unknown player tabled {K-Spades} {2-Spades} for top pair, and that was good enough to take down the pot and knock Mizzi down to about 11,000 chips.

Noah Boeken Eliminated

Noah Boeken
Noah Boeken

Noah Boeken was all-in for his last 600 chips before the flop against two opponents. His {Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs} did not improve against Brock Parker's {A-Spades}{8-Hearts} on the {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} board and the Team PokerStars Pro hit the rail, only a few hands after his return from the dinner break.

Parker is up to 38,500.

Away we Go...

The greens have been raced off, our players are back in their seats and cards are in the air. We'll play four more levels tonight.

Chow Time

Our players are on a one hour dinner break after the 25-denomination chips are colored up and raced off the tables. We'll be back in action at about 10:30 p.m. PDT.

Recent Eliminations

We see Howard Lederer pacing around in between some of the far tables, so we feel comfortable guessing that The Professor been relieved of the remainder of his short stack.

Also making the early walk of shame just moments ago was Soheil Shamseddin.

Deeb Laughs it Off

Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb

Jameson Painter raised in middle position, and Nikolay Evdakov made it three bets from the button. In the big blind, Shaun Deeb four-bet it, and both of his opponents called to see a flop.

It brought out {7-Hearts} {5-Spades} {2-Diamonds}, and Deeb's follow-up bet was once again called by both players. That led them to the {10-Hearts} turn where Deeb bet again, and this time Painter ducked out of the way while Evdakov continued his calling ways.

They were heads up to the {Q-Diamonds} river, and Deeb check-called a bet this time. Evdakov tabled {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades} for top pair on the river, and Deeb broke into a fit of laughter as he mucked his second-best cards.

Evdakov - 23,900
Deeb - 37,600

Lederer On the Short Stack

Those Scandis! They could have anything!
Those Scandis! They could have anything!

On a {K-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop, Howard Lederer check-raised Erik Sagstrom's bet and earned a call. The {Q-Hearts} came on the turn and Lederer fired out. Sagstrom raised and Lederer called. The river was the {Q-Clubs} and Lederer check-called one more bet.

Sagstrom turned up {Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a full house and Lederer mucked.

"I'd better lower my expectations for today," sighed the Professor. He's down to only 3,100 in chips while Sagstrom is up to 42,000.
