Alaei Goes BOOM!

[user68268]

Daniel Alaei opened the pot from under the gun with raise to 175,000. Ville Mattila was in the small blind and reraised to 605,000. Action moved back over to Alaei and he thought about it for a bit. Eventually, he reraised the pot. Mattila moved all in and Alaei called, not looking to happy.

He held the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Spades} against the {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for Mattila.

The flop came down {J-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Alaei picked up some outs to a flush. Hitting a queen though would give Mattila a straight.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and Alaei spiked his spade for the flush. The river then completed the board with the {5-Hearts}.

"That's right, Danny!" yelled out Tommy Le, who is seated over with Steve Sung railing and supporting Alaei. "Boom!"

Alaei was all in for 1.925 million in chips after the 175,000 was pulled in from each player, putting him at 4.28 million now. Mattila dropped to 1.34 million.

Trevor Uyesugi Eliminated in 5th Place ($195,631)

Trevor Uyesugi - 5th place
Trevor Uyesugi - 5th place

From the button, Trevor Uyesugi opened to 280,000, and Daniel Alaei was thinking sinister thoughts. From the big blind, he stared down Uyesugi's small remaining stack, then announced a covering rereaise. Uyesugi was promptly all in for 405,000 total, and the cards were on their backs:

Alaei: {7-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {Q-Spades}
Uyesugi: {4-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {8-Hearts}

The flop was a good start for Uyesugi as it came down {10-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} to pull him into the lead with two pair. The {K-Diamonds} on the turn was an awfully dangerous sweat card, and the {10-Spades} on the river was the death knell for Uyesugi. Alaei makes his trips to win the pot, taking the rest of his opponent's chips and sending him out the door in fifth place. It's not what he wanted today, but Uyesugi will pick up almost $200,000 as a consolation prize before he leaves the building.

Lacay Floats His Way to the Turn

Daniel Alaei raised preflop, and Ludovic Lacay called from the big blind to go heads up. The dealer rolled out a flop of {A-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {A-Hearts}, and Lacay check-called a bet of 160,000. On the {10-Hearts} turn, Lacay took the lead with a bet of 330,000. Alaei stared him down for a long two minutes or so, but he surrendered.

From the cutoff seat, Ludovic Lacay raised to 160,000, the minimum raise. Daniel Alaei was on the button and reraised the pot, making it 600,000 to go. The blinds folded and then Lacay made the call.

The flop came down {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Lacay pushed to put Alaei all in for his last 500,000 of so. Alaei didn't look too happy, but called anyway. He had already committed over half his chips to the pot already.

Alaei held the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{4-Spades} for a pair of queens. Lacay held the {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} for bottom two pair.

The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and gave Alaei a better two pair. Lacay did add a flush draw despite falling behind. The river completed the board with the {K-Hearts} and wasn't what Lacay needed to knock out Alaei.

The two-time bracelet winner doubled up to about 2.3 million in chips while Lacay lost about a fourth of his stack.

Alaei Lets it Go

Daniel Alaei raised to 160,000 from the button, and Ville Mattila reraised to 520,000 from the small blind. Alaei was already cutting out the calling chips while Mattila was stacking them, and he matched the extra 360,000 to see a flop.

It came {7-Spades} {K-Hearts} {4-Clubs}, and Mattila took his pause. He verbally announced a bet that was too quiet for us to hear, and before he had to motion for his chips, Alaei shook his head and sent his cards back to the dealer face-down.
