Gross: {J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Katz: {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{9-Spades} to give Katz the double up to 65,000 as Gross slips to 85,000 in chips.

Chan Doubles To Even

John Duthie raised the action to 7,000 and Terrence Chan moved all in for 35,700. Duthie made the call and the cards were tabled.

Chan: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Duthie: {K-Spades}{J-Spades}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds} to see Chan double to 73,000 as Duthie slips to 77,000 in chips.

This one could take a while folks!

Runner Runner For Duthie

John Duthie limped in from the button only to call a Terrence Chan raise to see a {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} fall and checks follow from both players.

The turn landed the {3-Spades} and Chan checked to Duthie who fired out 10,000. Chan made the call the see the {A-Diamonds} peel on the river and a bet of 20,000 follow from Duthie.

Chan made the call once again only to muck at the sight of Duthie's {A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} as the Canadian slips to 38,000 while Duthie climbs up to 112,000.

Bell Makes Quads To Progress

On a flop of {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Spades} William Reynolds found himself all in against Chris Bell.

Reynolds: {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Bell: {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

With Reynolds' flopped nut straight in great shape to ensure a double up, running eights in the {8-Clubs} and {8-Spades} would see Bell catch running quads to see him win his table to progress through to the second round while leaving Reynolds stunned.

Two Tournaments, Two Stacks

Justin Smith in Shootout action
Justin Smith in Shootout action

Over on table 35 we find Justin 'Boosted J' Smith in a commanding chip position with 124,000 to Anh Van Nguyen's 26,000.

Although the action is fairly dull, Smith and Nguyen were discussing one of the other events that are also in play at the moment; Event 7: $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball.

Smith has a seat in that very tournament at the moment, and when he left he only had 7,000 with blinds at 300-600.

"I'm probably busto by now," he stated to Nguyen.

Unfortunately for Smith the table that contained his blind-dwindling stack broke and consequently cannot be located at present time by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team.

McGoin' to Day 2

"I know you're twenty times the player I am," Joseph McGowan told Lee Markholt moments before the last hand between the two.

On said hand they got it all-in preflop after a series of raises and the hands were shown down:

McGowan: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Markholt: {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

McGowan stood up and pleaded, "Come on let the best hand win one time."

The {7-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} improved the best hand, and the {10-Clubs} on the hand sealed the deal. The {4-Spades} on the river was meaningless, and after a quick chip verification by the dealer Makrholt hit the rail.

McGowan may not be the player Markholt is, but he's still alive and at least $16,607 richer.

Jones Falls, Stammen Progresses

Aaron Jones found himself all in preflop holding {A-Spades}{8-Spades} against Keven Stammen's {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}.

"All that for this!" stated Jones as the dealer spread the {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{8-Spades} board to give both players two-pair but Stammen the better of the two.

With Jones now on the rail, Stammen moves into round two and a guaranteed payday of $16,607 for his near twelve hours of play.

McGowan Doubles

We rushed over to find Joseph McGowan raking in a double up against Lee Markholt.

The board read {4-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} with only McGowan's {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} face up as he began stacking his chips up to over 70,000 and change.

Big Flop

Cary Katz just doubled through Steve Gross over at Table 1 after a monster big flop for both players.

The hand was over when we arrived, but we were quick enough to see that Katz held {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and Gross {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. The flop had a queen and two hearts, but no heart came on either the turn or river.

Katz now sits with around 70,000 chips and Gross with 80,000.
