Corkins Carries Momentum Into Break

Hoyt Corkins was down to his last 35,000 when he raised in early position. Richard Brodie made it three bets, and Corkins called. The flop came {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and the player got all the money in.

Brodie: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Corkins: {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Brodie shot his arms into the air and exclaimed "Seriously!" when he saw that Corkins had sucked out on him. The turn and river came {4-Spades} and {q-Spades}, and Corkins doubled up. Corkins has since won two more pots, and has upped his stack to over 100,000 again.

Familiar Foes

In a scene that we’ve seen before, Carlos Mortensen raised from the cutoff and Darren Woods three-bet from the small blind. Mortensen called and Woods led out on the {6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop. Mortensen raised and Woods made the call as the players saw the {5-Clubs} on the turn. Woods check-called Mortensen’s bet while both players checked the {5-Spades} on the river. Woods turned over {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} which was good to win another pot off Mortensen who mucked.

Carlos Mortensen 210,000

Kelly Won’t Hang

Tam Hang raised from the hijack and Dan Kelly called from the big blind. On the {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop, Kelly check-raised Hang who re-raised him back. Kelly made the call and check-called when the {8-Clubs} landed on the turn. Both players checked the {7-Spades} on the river and Kelly showed {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a full house which was good.

Schulman vs. Gallin

[user153638]

Action folded to Matthew Gallin on the button and he put in the expected raise. Nick Schulman insta-three-bet from the small blind, which Gallin opted to call. The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Schulman quickly bet, which Gallin called. The same action occurred on the {5-Clubs} turn and {9-Clubs} river, at which point Schulman rolled over {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for two pair. Gallin frowned a bit before sliding his cards in the muck.

Nick Schulman 300,000
Matthew Gallin 110,000 -100,000

Landfish Sinking

Marwan Abdelal raised from the hijack and Steve Landfish three-bet on the button. Abdelal made the call and check-called Landfish’s bet on the {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop. Both players checked the {Q-Clubs} turn and Marwan led out when the {Q-Spades} hit the river. Landfish made the call and was shown the {K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} of Abdelal for a straight. Landfish started at the board for a while and then back at his cards before he finally mucked.

Our one-time chip leader tonight in Landfish could be experiencing the same meltdown that he suffered against Bertrand Grospellier when the two were heads up in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship event two nights ago.

Marwan Abdelal 210,000 -85,000
Steve Landfish 140,000 -90,000

Corkins Crippled by Idema

Hoyt Corkins

Daniel Idema raised under the gun, and Hoyt Corkins was the only caller in the small blind. The board ran out {5-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{j-Diamonds}, and on every single street, Corkins check called a bet from Idema. Idema showed {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} for top pair, and Corkins couldn't beat it, as he mucked his cards, dropping him to 30,000, just under two big bets.

[user153638]

Dan Kelly raised from the cutoff and was called by Nick Schulman in the big blind. When the flop fell {9-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Schulman check-raised Kelly, who ended up making the call. It went check-bet-call on the {J-Clubs} turn, which was followed by the {8-Hearts} on the river.

This time both players checked and Kelly mucked as soon as Schulman turned over {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

Last Woman Standing Doubles Through Schneider

[user153638]

Cathleen Tran, the last woman remaining in the field, was short stacked and raised under the gun. Action folded all the way to Michael Schneider in the big blind and he made the call, subsequently check-calling the {10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop.

Schneider then checked the {10-Clubs} turn, Tran bet, Schenider raised, and Tran called all in for 20,500 total.

Schneider: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}
Tran: {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Tran had her opponent drawing dead, but the {J-Spades} was put out on the river anyways. Tran is still short with just 80,000.

Chau-Chau

[user153638]

Domenico Denotaristefani raised under the gun and then called a three-bet from Chau Giang in the cutoff. It was heads-up to a {4-Spades}{K-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop, which saw the action go check-bet-raise-call. The same exact action took place on the {J-Diamonds} turn, and then it went check-bet-fold on the {5-Hearts} river.

Ship the pot to Giang.

Matador Caught in the Woods

Darren Woods
Darren Woods

Carlos Mortensen raised from the cutoff and Darren Woods three-bet from the small blind. Mortensen made the call and called Woods’ bet on the {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Spades} flop. Woods bet again when the {K-Spades} hit the turn but Mortensen came back with a re-raise. Woods just called but bet again when the {2-Spades} landed on the river. Mortensen called and was shown the {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} of Woods that improved on all streets from ace-high with an inside-straight draw on the flop to a straight on the turn to the nut flush by the end. Mortensen claimed that he also held a straight but mucked his hand as Woods raked in the pot.
