Event #37: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship

Brunson Busts to Rosario

Todd Brunson
Todd Brunson

Todd Brunson opened under the gun to 2,400 only to have Shirley Rosario three-bet. Once the action returned to Brunson, he made it 4,800 and Rosario called.

Brunson bet out 1,200 on the {J-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop with Rosario making it two bets. Brunson committed his last 1,100 and the cards were tabled.

Brunson: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Rosario: {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

The turn and river landed the {8-Clubs} and {9-Clubs} to see Brunson hit the rail as Rosario moves to roughly 36,000 in chips.

Bach Busts

Seeing David Bach make a quick exit to the rail, we spoke to Tom Koral about how the 2009 Poker Player's Championship winner was felted.

All in drawing to a low, Bach was up against two opponents. One made trip jacks, and when Bach bricked his low, he was forced to make an early exit.

Young and Carlos Chop It Up

[user80015] • Level 9

Carlos Mortensen completed and Jason Young and Jeet Shetty made the call before Young took the lead by betting fourth, fifth and sixth street. Shetty folded on fifth, as Mortensen called Young down before both players checked seventh.

Mortensen: (X)(X) / {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} / (X)
Young: (X)(X) / {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} / (X)
Shetty: (X)(X) / {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{J-Hearts} (folded on fifth)

Young tabled his {2-Hearts}{2-Spades} / {8-Spades} to chop with Mortensen's {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}.

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and the 2011 World Series of Poker for Day 2 of Event #37: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship!

A stellar field took to the felt yesterday to form a $2,256,000 prizepool where over $600,000 and a coveted gold bracelet was up for grabs. The 240 players that went to battle in a game that is widely agreed to be one of the toughest to play saw the field reduced to 173 after just eight levels of play.

Ron "Grumpy" Ware sits atop the leaderboard with an amassed 122,300-chip stack, but snapping at his heels is Dustin Leary with his 114,000-chip stack. Team PokerStars Pros Eugene Katchalove (101,600), Daniel Negreanu (99,900) and Barry Greenstein (86,900) sit in the top ten alongside Tom Koral (98,400), Brett Richey (88,000) and Chau Giang (80,700).

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on the floor providing continuous live coverage from 2:30 p.m. PDT, so make sure to stay tuned right here as we begin writing the story of the next H.O.R.S.E. Championship winner!

Be sure to check out the June 22nd update from our very own Sarah Grant.
