The Poker Player's Championship

Shamus • Level 15

A hasty check of the record books reveals that of the 32 players remaining, 18 have WSOP bracelets: Phil Hellmuth (11), Jeffrey Lisandro (5), Barry Greenstein (3), Josh Arieh (2), Scott Seiver, Steve Sung, Owais Ahmed, Rami Boukai, Yan Chen, Robert Mizrachi, Ben Lamb, Brian Rast, Phil Galfond, Jason Lester, Steve Billirakis, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Gus Hansen, and David Bach.

Of the other 14 without bracelets, it looks as though five have collected over $1 million in WSOP cashes (Michael Binger, Minh Ly, Matt Glantz, Vladimir Shchemelev, and David Baker). And two more have more than half a million in Series winnings (Marco Johnson and Jon Turner).

Deeb vs. Galfond

No-Limit Hold'em

The action folded to Shaun Deeb on the button, and he raised to 25,000. Phil Galfond tank-called in the big blind, and the flop fell {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. Galfond checked, Deeb continued for 36,000, and Galfond called.

The turn was the {k-Hearts}, and Galfond checked again. Deeb fired a second bullet - this one was worth 92,000 - and Galfond tank-called.

The river was the {9-Hearts}, and Galfond tanked before leading for 160,000 - leaving around 150,000 behind. Deeb paused, then raised to 400,000 (effectively 310,000). Galfond sat back in his chair, put his hands on his head, and proceeded to tank for ten minutes. He eventually mucked, and Deeb showed the {a-Hearts}.

Two hands later, Deeb opened to 25,000 from the hijack seat, Galfond moved all in for 138,500 on the button and Deeb called.

Deeb: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Galfond: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Galfond held as the board ran {j-Clubs}{q-Spades}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, doubling to 305,000 chips.

Shaun Deeb 745,000 115,000
Phil Galfond 305,000 -235,000

On sixth, Deeb check-called a bet from Galfond, and on seventh, Deeb check-folded. Galfond won the pot, and despite dropping below 100,000 chips at one point today, Galfond is now above 500,000.

King-High Enough for Luneau

Shamus • Level 15

We picked up this one on fifth street, with Alexandre Luneau betting and David Bach calling. The pair followed the same pattern on sixth. By seventh Luneau was down to just 25,000 or so, and checked. Bach checked behind.

Luneau: (X)(X) / {Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Clubs} / (X)
Bach: (X)(X) / {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} / (X)

With a less-than-enthusiastic look Luneau turned over {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Then Bach showed his down cards -- {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} -- and Luneau's mood brightened considerably. Both chuckled to see Luneau's king-high turn out to be good.

Luneau moves up to 225,000 while Bach slips to 275,000.

It's a Double KO All The Way

Jim McCrink: (X)(X) / {5-}{k-}{6-}{j-} / (X)
Brian Hastings: (X)(X) / {a-}{2-}{q-}{7-} / (X)
Ben "Benba" Lamb: (X)(X) / {5-}{5-}{6-}{3-} / (X)

McCrink completed, Hastings raised, Lamb re-raised, and McCrink and Hastings called. Hastings led on fourth street, Lamb and McCrink called. Hasintings led again on fifth, Lamb raised, McCrink called all in and so too did Hastings.

Lamb: {2-}{4-}
Hastings: {5-}{8-}
McCrink: {a-}{9-}

Once sixth street was dealt, it was all over; McCrink and Hastings were drawing dead. We didn't even catch the last cards, and Lamb pulled in the pot to push his stack to 750,000 chips.

"Finally," Lamb announced. "Profited on the day."
