Event #36: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em

...And That's a Wrap

After eight and a half levels of play, we're ready to conclude for the evening as our survivors from each Day 1 get ready to meet tomorrow when they will get into the money and work their way to a final table.

Today's field was predictably smaller than yesterday's. Of the 1,119 who signed up for play today, 165 will play tomorrow. They'll be joining 290 additional players for a field of about 455.

Those who didn't make the cut today include Shannon Elizabeth, James Akenhead, David Bach, Victor Ramdin, Men Nguyen, Chino Rheem,David Singer, Ylon Schwartz, George Lind, Gavin Griffin, Michael Mizrachi, Jimmy Fricke, Antonio Esfandiari and Allek Kessler.

That's not to downplay those who have had successful days. Players bagging their chips for the night include chip-leader Ryan D'Angelo (67,875), Svetlana Gromenkova (34,925), Eric "gpokerg" Wasserson (30,000), Antoine Saout (27,000), Ari Engel (24,900).

The money bubble will pop when we reach 324 players, and it shouldn't take too much time to do so. After that, it'll be a drive to the final table and a bracelet worth a whopping $481,760.

Make sure you join us tomorrow at 2:30pm local time as we bring you all the action fit to print for the final three days of Event #36.

Svetlana Gromenkova opened the pot on the button and the player in the small blind moved all in for about 15,000 chips. The Russian called and her opponent tabled {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}. Gromenkova tabled {10-}{10-} and she needed help from the board.

The board ran out {6-Spades}{q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Gromenkova slipped to 35,000 chips in the last minutes of the day.

Nice Turn for Saout

[user49729]

When we arrived at the table the board was spread {4-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and Antoine Saout fired a 1,800-chip bet from the big blind. Only the player in the small blind called.

The river card was a {7-Spades} and the small blind check-called a 4,000-chip bet from Saout.

The French tabled {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and took the pot, is now up to 27,000 chips.

The player under the gun opened the pot with a 900-chip raise and next to speak, Adam Goulding re-popped it. Both player ended up all in pre-flop and our own Snoopy tabled {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. His opponent showed {9-}{9-} and without help from the board Adam is out of the tournament.

Elizabeth Bites the Dust

Shannon Elizabeth shoved all in from late position and might have realized she was in trouble when the small bind called and the big blind re-shoved with the small blind once again calling.

Elizabeth: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Small blind: {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Big blind: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The flop came {4-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} and was followed by the {6-Diamonds} on the turn and the {2-Diamonds} on the flop and that was it for Elizabeth.

Svetlana Takes the Lead

We've yet to do an official survey of the field, but after this last hand we are confidant that Svetlana Gromenkova is our chipleader.

Gromenkova raised to 800 from the cutoff and was re-raised to 2,200 by Mark Harris, who was sitting in the small blind. Gromenkova thought for a moment and made the call.

The players checked all the way through to the river until we had a board reading {8-Spades}{k-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{3-Spades} at which time Harris checked and Gromenkova bet 4,000. Harris thought for a moment before making the call.

Gromenkova turned over {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a straight and Harris mucked his {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} face up, stood and left the room. He wasn't eliminated, but he probably needed to cool down.

At our count, Gromenkova is up to 57,000 chips.
